The session will be exploring the credibility of the government’s ambition to achieve at least 95% clean electricity generation by 2030. To achieve its targets the government must upgrade the electricity transmission network to handle a higher capacity of renewable energy and to improve resilience - but is that deliverable?

\r\nThe National Audit Office recently found that renewable energy generation has expanded faster than the grid’s transmission capacity, contributing to rising constraint costs. The session will seek to establish whether lessons have been learned from allowing this to happen.
\r\nOther likely topics will include how the regulator Ofgem will keep costs down for consumers while overseeing around £70bn of planned investment by private network companies, as well as the likely costs for consumers of delaying planned energy grid upgrades.
