MPs quiz Ofcom on STV cuts

The Scottish Affairs Committee hears from representatives from Ofcom as it examines cuts at STV.

In September 2025, STV published their interim financial results for the 6-months ended on 30 June 2025, which included a cost savings plan to deliver £3m additional savings per year. The plan included changes to STV’s regional news programming commitment. Ofcom approved these plans in June 2026.

MPs may investigate the impact of the cuts on STV’s news service offer and local journalism. The cross-part committee could also examine the rationale for Ofcom's approval of STV’s cuts, and its consultation process, including why this decision was delayed until after the Scottish Parliament elections.

Members may also ask questions related to the committee's inquiry into the future of Gaelic broadcasting.
