Broadcasting in Wales: S4C, BBC Cymru Wales and ITV Cymru Wales to give evidence to MPs

The Welsh Affairs Committee will hold a one-off session examining the challenges and opportunities facing the broadcasting sector in Wales.

The session is also an opportunity to discuss BBC Charter Renewal and its potential impact on the broadcasting sector in Wales. The BBC’s Charter is reviewed every ten years, with the next Charter due to come into effect at the start of 2028.

In the first panel, MPs will question S4C Chair Delyth Evans and Chief Executive Geraint Evans. S4C is funded through the licence fee, so MPs are likely to ask about BBC Charter Renewal alongside questions on minority language broadcasting.

Then, the committee will question representatives from BBC Cymru Wales. MPs are likely to ask about the importance of the broadcaster’s presence in Wales, including its contribution to economic growth and the opportunities for Wales-based production companies and creatives.

In the third panel, MPs will hear from witnesses from ITV Cymru Wales to understand the challenges facing the sector, such as the rise of streaming services and changing audience habits.
