{"primaryDescription":"<h2><strong>MPs quiz ministers on Child Poverty Strategy</strong></h2>\r\n<p>MPs from the Education and Work and Pensions Committees will quiz government ministers on the government&rsquo;s work to reduce child poverty.</p>","secondaryDescription":"<p>Last December the government published its Child Poverty Strategy, which it estimates will lift half a million children out of poverty by the end of the current Parliament.</p>\r\n<p>MPs are likely to ask the ministers for Employment and Early Education, Dame Diana Johnson and Olivia Bailey respectively, whether the strategy is ambitious enough and whether it is still a priority within government, given Secretaries of State are no longer responsible for delivering it.</p>\r\n<p>They are also likely to ask how the strategy will interact with other government policies on employment, benefits, housing and education, particularly in the early years.</p>\r\n<p>Committee members are also likely to ask about the government&rsquo;s approach to setting targets, following the Children&rsquo;s Commissioner for England&rsquo;s call for ministers to set a target to reduce deep material poverty to zero, and how it intends to evaluate whether the strategy is succeeding.&nbsp;</p>","parliamentTvUrl":null,"id":27797,"name":null,"startDate":"2026-07-14T09:45:00","endDate":"2026-07-14T12:30:00","cancelledDate":null,"locationId":5,"location":"The Boothroyd Room, Portcullis House","eventType":{"id":6,"name":"Formal meeting (oral evidence session)","isVisit":false,"description":"Formal meetings may be held in private (for example to consider a draft report) or in public (for example to hear oral evidence), and require a minimum number of members to be present."},"eventSource":"CIS","committees":[{"contact":{"email":"educom@parliament.uk","phone":null,"address":"Education Committee, House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA","contactDisclaimer":"We receive a significant number of emails each day.
