Heathrow expansion inquiry continues with host authority Hillingdon

The Transport Committee will hear from the London Borough of Hillingdon as it continues looking into the Government’s blueprint for a third runway at Heathrow.

\r\n

The Committee is scrutinising the draft Heathrow Expansion National Policy Statement (HENPS) published by the Department for Transport in June 2026.

\r\n

As the host authority directly containing the airport, Hillingdon has been opposed to expansion for 25 years and continues to fight against the plans.

\r\n

A representative of the council will appear before the Committee on Tuesday as the fourth oral evidence session of the HENPS inquiry gets under way. 

\r\n

They will be on a panel alongside representatives of Heathrow Strategic Planning Group and National Infrastructure Planning Association.

MPs will ask this panel about the provisions of the draft HENPS and they will explore issues relating to local impacts of expansion, including traffic, biodiversity and compensation.

Another panel will feature witnesses from Heathrow Area Transport Forum, Heathrow Southern Railway, National Highways and Transport for London.

\r\n

A key focus for this panel will be the Government’s Strategic Vision for surface transport and the public transport mode share targets put forward in the HENPS.
