The government indicated in its consultation paper that it was not considering replacing the licence fee with alternative forms of public funding.
\r\n
The Secretary of State is also likely to be asked about the services the BBC should provide as a public service broadcaster, the importance of independence from government and the corporation’s strategy to succeed in the world of digital media.
\r\n
There could also be questions about the BBC’s public purposes, its role in tackling disinformation and misinformation, and the case for a permanent Charter.
\r\n
On Wednesday this week, the committee took evidence from new BBC Director-General Matt Brittin and Chair Samir Shah.
","parliamentTvUrl":null,"id":27324,"name":null,"startDate":"2026-07-13T16:00:00","endDate":"2026-07-13T19:00:00","cancelledDate":null,"locationId":3,"location":"The Thatcher Room, Portcullis House","eventType":{"id":6,"name":"Formal meeting (oral evidence session)","isVisit":false,"description":"Formal meetings may be held in private (for example to consider a draft report) or in public (for example to hear oral evidence), and require a minimum number of members to be present."},"eventSource":"CIS","committees":[{"contact":{"email":"CommonsCMS@parliament.uk","phone":null,"address":"Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee, House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA","contactDisclaimer":"We receive a significant number of emails each day.
